Laying Large-Format Porcelain Stoneware Without Joints (Rectified) and with Minimal Joints in Kyiv: Technology

Minimal joints (0.5-1 mm) or “seamless” laying of rectified porcelain stoneware is one of the most popular trends of 2025-2027. It can be achieved only with perfect tile geometry, a perfect substrate and professional tools.

When laying with a 0.5-1 mm joint is possible

• Strictly rectified tile (calibrated after firing).
• Size from 60×120 to 120×278 cm and slab.
• Thickness 6-20 mm (thin porcelain stoneware of 3-6 mm carries a risk of bending).
• A stable temperature in the room (±5 °C).

Preparing the substrate for “seamless” laying

• Deviation ≤ 1 mm per 2 m (laser + 3 m straightedge).
• Substrate moisture < 2%.
• Primer + adhesion bridge (Mapei Primer G + Mapelastic AquaDefense).
• Expansion joints every 4-5 m (filled with silicone or flexible grout).
• Floor heating only low-temperature (< 28 °C on the surface).

Adhesives for minimal joints

• C2TES2 / S1 / S2 deformable: Kerakoll H40 Advanced, Mapei Keraflex Maxi S1, Litokol Litoflex K80 Eco, Ardex X 77.
• For thin porcelain stoneware (3-6 mm): Ardex X 78 Microtec, Mapei Ultralite S2.

Tools that are indispensable

• Vacuum suction cups, 4-8 pcs (Bohle, Rubi, Sigma).
• A tile vibrator (Raimondi, Montolit): mandatory.
• A levelling system with very thin wedges (Rubi Delta Level System 1 mm, DTA 0.5 mm).
• A tile cutter with a diamond blade 250-350 mm + a guide rail.
• A 360° laser projector + a digital inclinometer.

Technology of laying with a minimal joint

• Dry layout + choosing the pattern (straight, 1/2, 1/3, modular).
• Double application of adhesive with a 6-10 mm trowel.
• Laying with a levelling system (every slab is fixed in one plane).
• Vibrating each slab for 5-8 minutes.
• Filling the joint with epoxy grout in the colour of the tile (Mapei Kerapoxy CQ, Litokol Starlike Crystal).
• Cleaning after 30-60 minutes (not earlier!).
• Final washing + protective impregnation (if matt or textured).
