A Turnkey Natural Stone Facade: Materials, Technology and Timing

Natural stone on a facade means status, durability and an aesthetic that does not go out of date for decades. M-STONE (Kyiv and the whole Kyiv region) has been installing facades of granite, travertine, limestone, sandstone, slate and marble for more than 10 years. Let us look in detail at how we do such projects and which materials we use.

Choosing the stone is the first and most important step

• Granite (the strongest, frost resistance F300+, almost does not absorb water) is ideal for plinths, entrance areas and commercial buildings in central Kyiv.
• Travertine (warm tones, texture) is popular for modern cottages in Irpin, Bucha and Kozyn.
• Limestone (light, elegant) for classic architecture in Podil and Pechersk.
• Sandstone is budget-friendly but needs impregnation.

We work directly with quarries and trusted suppliers from Ukraine (the Holovyne and Zhytomyr deposits), Italy and Turkey. The stone thickness is 20-30 mm for ventilated facades and 30-50 mm for wet installation.

M-STONE installation technologies

• Ventilated facade (the most durable, 50+ years)
• A frame of galvanised or stainless steel.
• Insulation: 100-150 mm basalt wool (Paroc, Rockwool).
• Fixing the stone on clamps (hidden installation) or combined (adhesive + clamps).
• Ventilation gap of 40-60 mm → no condensation or mould.
• Wet facade with stone (more economical, but also reliable)
• Insulation + reinforcing mesh.
• Ceresit Thermo Universal or Capatect adhesive.
• Additional mechanical fixing with anchors (4-6 per element).

Work process

• Approval of sketches and the estimate.
• Erecting scaffolding, protecting windows/doors.
• Insulation + hydro barrier.
• Laying the stone from the bottom up, controlling the plane with a laser.
• Grouting the joints with a coloured compound or pointing.
• Final impregnation with a water repellent (protection from dirt, efflorescence, UV).

Timing

• Duration: 80-150 m² takes 4-7 weeks (depending on weather and complexity).
