Ventilated facade is a modern technology of building cladding, which allows you to increase their energy efficiency
, protection, design and practicality. The ventilated facade consists of an additional wall made of facing material, which is mounted at a distance from the main wall, forming an air space between them. This space functions as a ventilation duct through which air circulates, removing excess moisture, heat, or cold.
But what exactly is included in the ventilated facade? What are its components and how do they interact with each other? To understand this, you need to consider the structure of the ventilated facade and its types.
Structure of the ventilated facade
The ventilated facade consists of five main elements:
* Face material. This is the outer layer of the ventilated facade, which gives it a decorative appearance and protects it from atmospheric influences. The face material can be made of various materials, such as aluminum, steel, HPL, fiber cement, porcelain stoneware, natural stone, granite, aluminum composite panels, wood, glass, metal cassettes and others. Each material has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages that affect the cost, quality and durability of a ventilated facade.
* Frame with fasteners. This is a subsystem for a ventilated facade that ensures its strength, stability and regulation. The frame consists of vertical and horizontal profiles that are attached to the main wall using anchors, bolts, rivets and other elements. The frame is also used for fixing the front material, insulation and hydraulic barrier. The frame can be made of aluminum, steel, wood or polymers.
* Insulation. It is a heat-insulating material that is used to reduce heat loss in winter and overheating in summer. The insulation is attached to the frame with dowels, staples or glue. The insulation can be made of mineral wool, foam, extruded polystyrene foam, foam ceramics, coconut fiber and other materials. The insulation must have high thermal conductivity, vapor permeability, fire resistance and resistance to fungi and rot.
* Hydrobarrier. This is a wind-and moisture-proof layer that protects the insulation from the penetration of moisture and condensation. The hydrobarrier consists of a film or membrane that is attached to the frame with tape, staples or glue. The hydrobarrier must have high water resistance, vapor permeability, strength and UV resistance.
* Ventilation gap. This is the air space between the front material and the Hydro-steam barrier, through which natural air circulation occurs. The ventilation gap ensures that excess moisture, heat or cold is removed from the ventilated facade, increasing its energy efficiency and durability. The ventilation gap should have an opening in the lower and upper parts of the ventilated facade to ensure optimal air exchange.
Types of ventilated facade
A ventilated facade can be classified according to various criteria, such as:
Type of face material. According to this feature, ventilated facades can be divided into the following types::
* Metal ventilated facades. These are ventilated facades that use metal panels made of aluminum, steel, copper, zinc, titanium or other alloys. Metal ventilated facades have high strength, lightness, resistance to corrosion, fire and UV rays. Metal ventilated facades can have different colors, textures, shapes and sizes, which allows you to create a variety of design solutions.
* Ceramic ventilated facades. These are ventilated facades that use ceramic tiles or porcelain stoneware. Ceramic ventilated facades have high thermal insulation, hygiene, resistance to moisture, fungi, rot, chemicals, mechanical damage and contamination. Ceramic ventilated facades can imitate various natural materials such as stone, wood, marble, granite, travertine, etc., as well as have different colors, textures, shapes and sizes.
* Wooden ventilated facades. These are ventilated facades that use wood panels made of solid wood, veneer, plywood, chipboard, OSB, MDF or other materials. Wooden ventilated facades have high environmental friendliness, thermal insulation, sound insulation, aesthetics and comfort. Ventilated wooden facades can have various shades, textures, shapes and sizes, as well as be varnished, painted, patinated, tinted, impregnated and other types of finishes.
* Glass ventilated facades. These are ventilated facades that use glass panels made of tempered, laminated, tinted, mirrored, frosted, fluted, multifunctional or other glass. Glass ventilated facades have high transparency, light transmission, resistance to fire, Moisture, UV rays and dirt. Ventilated glass facades can have different colors, textures, shapes and sizes, as well as be used to create the effects of LED lighting, photovoltaic, electrochromism, etc.
These are just some of the types of ventilated facades that can be used for building cladding. There are many other types of ventilated facades that can be combined with each other or with other types of facades to create unique architectural and design solutions.
